I’ll legalise marijuana - Mahama’s contender

The 45-year-old man contesting president John Mahama has served notice he will legalise marijuana if he becomes the first gentleman of Ghana.

George Boateng has already picked up forms to contest the sitting president in the National Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential primary slated for November 7, 2015.

Boateng argued the substance is medicinal and could become a major export commodity for the West African country.

“The government can export marijuana and use the proceeds to develop the country,” the Oyarifa branch Youth Organiser of the ruling NDC told Accra-based Asempa FM Monday.

He said the move will also help create jobs for the youth.

“We will grow and export it [marijuana] under government control. It will help us. Weed is not a bad thing,” the former aide to former first lady Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings added.

According to him, Mahama has failed woefully and he can help the NDC realise their promises in a bid to retain power.

He said he believes he will receive the party’s nod since Mahama has failed in managing the economy and the power crisis.

Boateng is expected to cough out Gh¢50,000 if he decides to file.
