Ghana Premier League Matchday One.. As it happened

The Ghana Premier league bounced back in grand fashion as 7 games were played across the country.  After months of litigation holding the league back, football hungry fans trooped to the various match centres to watch their clubs and players play.


All but Aduana Stars' clash with Liberty Professionals came on as scheduled.

The matches did live up to expectation with each match centre recording a goal at least.  The end-to-end actions were inspired by the points to be grabbed. Worth the wait? 

Here's how it all happened

Tema: Inter Allies 3-0 Bechem United
The eleven is to one side relied on goals from debutant Victorian Adebayor and Daniel Amanfo to record their first league win under their new manager,  Kenechi Yatshuashi. The visiting team,  Bechem United tried as they did in the first half of the game could not stop the home side from scoring in the second half of the game.

Sogakope: Wafa 1-1 Asante Kotoko
Former Ashantigold SC attacker,  Yakubu Mohammed was on hand to deflect Jordan Opoku's goal bound effort to cancel out the home sides well struck freekick by Manchester City bound Aminu Mohammed. Aminu combined well with Richard Danso to torment the experienced Kotoko defence but Kotoko's goalkeeper, Felix Annan made sure the game ended in a stalemate.

Techiman: Eleven Wonders 1-1 Hearts
Alex Asamoah beautifully slotted home the equalizer for Eleven Wonders in the second half after Winful Cobbinah had given Hearts of Oak the lead through a coolly converted penaltykick in the first half of the game.  John Mossie of Eleven Wonders ensured that Hearts did no further harm to the home side with a string of world class saves.

Dawu: Dreams FC 1-0 Elmina Sharks
A late goal from Zuberu Sharani ensured that returnees,  Dreams FC,  grabbed all the points at stake.  The Sharks from Elmina gave them a run for their money but for the ingenuity of Sharani,  the game was bound to end up in a draw. Speedy recovery to the Elmina Sharks, goalkeeper, Joseph Essam, who had to be rushed to the hospital after sustaining an injury.

Cape Coast: Ebusua Dwarfs 1-0 Chelsea
Joseph Mensah was on hand in the second period of the game to give Mysterious Ebusua Dwarfs their first 3 points of the campaign. Mensah converted from the penalty spot after the referee whilstled for a foul against the Berekum side in their 18 yard box.

Tarkwa: Medeama 1-0 Karela United
Asante Kotoko outcast, Kwame Boateng's early strike ensured that the yellow and mauves kept the bragging rights over debutants Karela United in the western derby.

Obuasi: Ashanti Gold 1-0 Wa All Stars
Shafiu Mumuni, a popular name on the lips of many Obuasi fans was at it again. The budding attacker grabbed the solitary goal that gave the homesters all the points at stake.  How crucial this goal was?  Time will tell.
