Every young athlete dreams of representing their nation at a point in time. To some, it's more than winning a laurel. It didn't come as a surprise then when it was reported that William Owusu was elated to have earned his maiden Black Star call up. 

The newbie was called by Head Coach, Kwasi Appiah ahead of Ghana's AFCON qualifier with Kenya at Nairobi on the 8th of August. The attacker earned a surprise call up ahead of the nation's all time top scorer, Asamoah Gyan and Swansea City's best player for the 2017/18 season, Jordan Ayew. 


1. The forward was born William Owusu Acheampong on September 13, 1989 in Accra, Ghana. 

2. He came in to the limelight as a 15 year old playing for Real Tamale United in the Ghanaian league. 

3. At 17 years, he moved to Belgium club RSC Anderlecht's Under 19 side where he spent a year before moving to Sporting CP to continue his development. 

4. The center forward stands at 1.87 m.

5. After joining Sporting CP's senior side in 2009, he spent the next 5 seasons as a loanee to 5 different club's. 

6. He joined Belgium club side Royal Antwerp as a free agent on 2014.

7. After a successful loan spell with Westerlo in 2013 where he scored 11 times in 38 games, the forward spent the next season on loan at Corona Brasov but he never kicked a ball. 

8. He spent the second half of the 2015/16 season on loan at KSV Roeselare from Antwerp where he scored 3 goals in 8 appearances.

9. A Primiera Liga runner up with Sporting in 2008/9, he went on to lift the Portuguese Super Cup as a squad member of Sporting. 

10. He got his first european night goal in 2010/11 whilst playing for Cercle Brugge in the UEFA Europa League. 

11. He scored 6 times in 9 Europa League games for Royal Antwerp in the 2017/18 season. 

12. His goal against Kotrijk on 22nd September was his fourth consecutive goal in the 2017/18 season. 

13. He plays with Ghanaian defender, Daniel Opare in the same club. 

14. His only goal in the new season came on the 81st minute away to RE Mouscron on matchday 3. 

15. He has managed 67 goals in 218 appearances so far having started 178 of those games. An average of a goal in every 3 games.
