Barcelona and African Players - Who is Next

Barcelona are on the verge of sealing a deal for Senegalese right back Moussa Wague. The 19-year-old scored in the 2-2 draw with Japan at the World Cup and has impressed in Belgium since he moved from the famed Aspire Academy.The defender will join the club as a backup to Nelson Semedo. 

He becomes the 8th African to have joined the Blaugrana side. The first African player to have joined the Spanish Club giants being Jorge Mendonca in 1966. Emmanuel Amunike and Okunowo also had stints at the club.

Samuel Eto'o (2004-09)
Having moved to Spain in 1997, the young attacker joined Real Madrid where he didn't get to make the grade. He had loan spells at Mallorca and Leganes before securing a move to Mallorca where he played 120 times and scored 48 goals. His performance caught the eye of the Catalan club who moved in for his services. He went on to play 199 times for Barcelona getting 130 goals and assisting another 42. He lifted eight trophies in his spell before moving to Inter Milan. 

Yaya Touré (2007-10)
The burly midfielder joined the Catalan side from Monaco in the summer of 2007. He managed 74 appearances for the club in his three year stay. He was part of the side that won 6 trophies in the 2009 calendar year. He left the club after failing to nail down a spot in the club's central midfield having to play mostly as a centre back. 

Seydou Keita (2008-12)
The Malian joined the club just a year after Touré had joined. In 119 appearances, the midfielder won 14 trophies in all with the club. He was also a part of the history making sextuple side in 2009. Operating at the same level as his time at Sevilla, he left the club to join AS Roma where he was a mainstay. 

Alex Song (2012-16)
The Cameroonian burst into the limelight playing for Arsenal in the English league. Blessed with excellent game reading and passing, he was signed to compete for a place in the midfield. He spent 2014 to 2016 out on loan at West Ham after failing to secure a spot in the club's central midfield. He was the last one from the continent to have worn the famous 'blue and red' jersey.
