West African Football Academy SC's Under 16 side emerged eventual winners of the 2018 Next Generation Tournament. The tournament held in Austria saw clubs like Chelsea, Red Bull Salzburg, FC Basel, Bayern Munich and Benfica taking part in the 12-team tournament. 


Young Coach Sadick Abubakar affectionately known as Ninja entrusted with the duty of raising a future side for the Sogakope based club selected for the tournament. 

Ninja's boys were paired up with Chelsea and hosts Red Bull Salzburg in the group stage and managed to defeat Chelsea by five unanswered goals as Diomande Jnr scored a hat-trick for the Ghanaian club. 

A draw in the next game with the hosts set up a quarter final date with FC Basel who they conquered by two goals to one. It was at this stage that Daniel Owusu set up the flame for a perpetual fire brand performance. 

The attacker got a brace to after some excellent displays in the group stages. WAFA went on to defeat Benfica on penalties after a one all drawn game in the semis. 

Joshua Doke and Daniel Owusu ensured that the trophy came to Ghana with a goal each in the final to defeat Red Bull Salzburg.

Daniel emerged as the Most Valuable player of the tournament played between 16th and 18th August. Daniel scored three times as well as displaying some good skills and maturity in the games. 

Owusu who joined the academy side from Kumasi Cornerstone Babies will likely follow in the steps of Nana Kwesi Asare, Dominic Adiyiah, Obeng Reagan, Yaw Frimpong, Emmanuel Anarfi and Daniel Obeng Crenstsil who all developed at the academy from Corners.
