EUROPA LEAGUE PLAYOFFS - HOW THE GHANAIAN PLAYERS FARED

The Europa League playoffs were honoured on Thursday night with 21 teams expected to qualify. It was the first leg of the final round fixtures and 5 sending offs likely tells the nature of the games. 51 goals were scored across the venues with the return ties scheduled for 30th August.

Some players from Ghana did represent their various clubs. Let's have a look at those who featured;

Osman Bukari came on to replace goal scorer Joey Sleegers as his side AS Trencin managed a one all drawn game with AEK Larnaca. The striker who joined the Slovakian club in the 2018 summer transfer window joined the game with 10 minutes to go. The forward is yet to score a goal in his first three games for his new club.

Joseph Paintsil who recently recovered from injury came on for Ndongala in the 74th minute as Genk defeated Brondby at home. The forward provided an assist for Genk's fifth goal of the game. Teammate, Joseph Aidoo lasted the entire game on the bench as Genk won by five goals to two.

Abass Issah led the line for Slovenian club NK Olimpija Ljubljana as they lost by two goals to nothing at home to Sparta Trnava from Slovakia. The former Asokwa Deportivo striker who had scored 3 goals in his last 5 games for his side failed to add up to his tally. Kingsley Boateng was thrown in on the 62nd minute by the home side in their quest to reduce the deficit.

Veteran left-back, Nana Kwasi Asare captained Belgium club, Gent to a goalless stalemate with French side, Bordeaux. Gent who have just lost once in 12 games will hope to overturn the tie under the command of the 32 year old Ghanaian left-back.
