ASAMOAH BECOMES THE FIRST GHANAIAN-BORN TO COACH IN EUROPE'S MAJOR LEAGUE

Former Germany international, Gerald Asamoah, has been appointed as the new coach at relegation threatened Bundesliga side, Schalke 04. Asamoah whose parents hail from Mampong in Ghana until this appointment, was the coach of Schalke's under-23 side.


 With Domenico Tedesco ousted after suffering a 2-10 scoreline on aggregate to Man City, Asamoah takes over the ruins with assistance from Huub Stevens and Mike Hubskens.

Schalke currently sit 15th in the Bundesliga table, only 3 points from safety, after losing 0-1 at home to high-flyers RB Leipzig. The club is currently winless in their last 7 games with 6 defeats recorded. 

The former Germany player scored 44 goals for Schalke 04 in 279 outings having played for the club in 11 years.

He played for the German national team 43 times including in two World Cups. He was one the first Ghanaians to play for another country despite being eligible for Ghana.

Asamoah becomes the only lsecond black coach of a Bundesliga team after Valerien Ismael.
