Kumasi Asante Kotoko face a herculean task in Abidjan on Sunday, 3rd November, when they face FC San Pedro. The Ivorian minnows managed to frustrate the continental club giants in the first leg tie in Kumasi.

In the game played over 2 days, Sunday and Monday, owing to nature, a 95th minute strike only separated the sides. Further adding tension between the sides is the little post match burst up which saw the players of San Pedro also chase the Referees off the field.

An earlier elimination by Etoile du Sahel from the Champions League leaves the club with no option than to qualify to the group stages of the Confederations Cup. Nothing else can appease the fans who want to see the club perform better than last season.

Frequently in situations like this, the Head Coach of the club is expected to steer the ship safely to shore. Interestingly,  Kjetil Zachariassen has not won the heart of the fans with his side's 0-3 thrashing in Tunisia still fresh a wound.

Former club captain, Godfred Yeboah, has his doubts as he remains bewildered at the decision to go for Kjetil Zachariassen to head the club's technical front. Speaking in a live radio interview days to the crucial duel, the former left footed defender questioned the club's top hierarchy for appointing the Norwegian.

"I don't know why Kotoko  management go in for coach Zachariassen or it is  because  he beat Kotoko 3-1 in Accra. We should asked the management the reason why they went in for Zachariassen"

Kjetil has steered 6 games with his side scoring 7 and conceding 6 with a 50% win ratio.

He hinted however at a comparison between Kjetil and former Asante Kotoko coach Paa Kwasi Fabin. Fabin led the club during the aborted 2018 league. He notably brought in some young talents to get rid of some established names Seth Opare, Eric Donkor, Saddick Adams and Frank Sarfo Gyamfi.

"Coach Paa Kwesi's performanced was better than this current coach for Kotoko''. .

Godfred Yeboah played in the last two continental finals the club lost in 2004 and 2002.

With Naby Keita's goal, can Zachariassen's charges qualify to the group stages of the Confederations Cup having lost all previous away duels in the Champions League ?
