Allez!! Ghana's Black Princesses in Paris. Here are 13 Things You Need To Know.

Ghana's Female Under-20 team, Black Princesses will be competing for gold at the World Under-20 Cup later on in the year at France.  How well do you know the Princesses? 

The competition which begun in 2002 as the FIFA Under 19 Women's World Championship has seen 8 editions fly past.  The USA and Germany have won the tournament 3 times each.

Renamed as a World Cup in 2008, the tournament organised by the world football governing body has been graced by stars like Christine Sinclair,  Marta,  Sidney Leroux,  Alexandra Popping and reigning African Women's footballer of the year,  Asisat Oshoala. 

Having qualified for the 5th consecutive time,  the Princesses open their account with a game against France,  the host nation,  on 5th August at Vannes.  The Ghanaians in the last edition shared the same group with the current hosts as well as New Zealand.

Here are some stats worth noting about the Princesses ahead of the tournament;

1. Ghana will be making her 5th appearance at the games, just one shy off Nigeria (6). But same as England and South Korea. 

2. Ghana has been grouped together with France,  New Zealand and Netherlands in group A.  The second time of being in group A at the tournament. Their best performance at the World Cup came in 2014 when they were in group A.  De ja vu? 

3. En route to this year's tournament,  the Princesses bagged 24 goals and conceeded just 2 in the 6 qualification games played.  Best in Africa! 

4. Priscilla Adubea found the back of the net 10 times to ensure that Ghana secured a spot at the mondial. Africa's next big thing?

5. In 6 qualification games played,  Ghana won 5 and drew 1. 

6. Ghana has won 2, drawn 3 and lost 7 in the 12 games played at the mondial previously. 

7. The Princesses have scored 11 and conceeded 19 in the 12 games played at the tournament in the earlier editions. 

8. Ghana has never qualified out of the group stage in their 4 attempts. 

9. Infront of 2,450 fans at the Ruhr Stadion,  Bochum,  goals from Elizabeth Addo and Elizabeth Cudjoe secured the Princesses' first victory at the tournament.  Switzerland bled. 

10. Ghana's first goal at the tournament was scored by Elizabeth Cudjoe.  She went on to score two more at the tournament. (3)

11. In 2014, Ghana lost out on a Quarter Final berth due to goal difference after tying up with Canada and North Korea on 6 points each.

12. The USA remains the Princesses greatest foe.  Having faced them 3 times,  Ghana has lost 1 and drawn 2. Incidentally,  they offered Ghana their first game at the tourney on 14th July,  2010 at the Rudolf-Harbig Stadion,  Dresden,  Germany. 

13. Ghana failed to get a point at the tournament for the first time in 2012. That same year the Princesses were whitewashed by 4 goals to nil by the USA.
